About the project
For the past two decades, hundreds of thousands of African migrants and refugees have left their home countries to reach Europe, taking them on perilous journeys through the Sahara and across the Mediterranean rife with violence, exploitation, and death.
But so far, we’ve only heard part of the story; one that begins in the Mediterranean and ends at our shores. We rarely hear migrants tell their stories in their words; why they left, what they sacrificed, how far they’ve come, and what kind of world they live in today.
Migrant Sea is an ongoing online documentary project focused on the views, voices, and stories of African migrants who have survived the perilous journey to Europe through the Sahara and across the Mediterranean.
Migrant Sea also seeks to cover the diverse social, geopolitical, and historical roots and causes of migration to Europe from over a dozen African nations and countless cultures.
Migrant Sea seeks to explore the unheard realities, challenges, and inequity that migrants face once in Europe.
